                                                          Shiv (Mahadeo) temple

 

Mukhed is located on southern Deccan Plateau. It is located in the district of Nanded which is part of Maharashtra State. This beautiful town is surrounded by mountains which encircle Mukhed and protect it day and night. it is noted for its natural beauty, Mandirs, mosques, Virabhadra Yatra and mountains.
 
This town is once known as Mohanavati Nagar. In the historical era who ever use to visit this town use to get enchanted and not able to leave this place easily. The literal English meaning of Mohanavati is “ Bewitch ” so they have to change the name to Mukhed.
 
Mukhed was part of Hyderabad state  ruled by Nizam-ul-Mulk ( popularly known as Nizam) from 1724 until 1948. Hyderabad State was the largest princely state in the erstwhile British Indian Empire. Mukhed was freed from Razakars in Operation Polo, and annexed into the Indian Union in 1948. 
 
Over the last two decades Mukhed has seen tremoundous development. As the whole country is witnessing a rapid westernisation, people of mukhed have moved from traditional farming into modern farming, businesses, Hospitality, industries  and every other aspect of business.  

  


Mukhed has historical importance since Ramayana days. King Dashrath (Father of Shree Ram), has unknowingly killed Shrawan Bal near a pond at night time mistaking him as a wild Animal who came to quench his thirst. Shrawan Bal came there to get some water for his parents.They in turn cursed Dashratha that in his end period he will not be near his son. The lake is now called as Shrawan Chalma. There is s famous well know as Sasu- Sunn Vihir. The myth story says there was big fight between mother in law (Sasu) & Daughter (Sunn) in law almost on daily basis. This household cold war was getting so popular it become routine to villagers to discuss latest happing. So both Sasu & Sunn felt they are setting up wrong example for others. They both decided to sacrifice there life in a well. Which surprised in entire town as a memento a well was constructed and was named after them.

 


In the recent years Mukhed was blessed with new Ganesh temple, Which added another glory to Mukhed town. People of Mukhed has stared believing even strongly in god after the miracle.
